Interested in volunteering with the American Red Cross for the local wildfires? Find out all the information you need to become a volunteer below.
We need volunteers over the next week to assist with Disaster Relief for the Station Fires. Volunteers will assist in shelters, assess damage, help clients through casework, provide health and mental health services, and fulfill clerical office assignments.
The American Red Cross will train volunteers and assign them to the locations that request volunteers. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP AT SHELTER LOCATIONS TO VOLUNTEER. As much as we would like to accommodate all available volunteers, everyone must go through our volunteer process and get trained before they start volunteering.
If you are a new volunteer and are available, please complete the following steps:
Step 1: Register and attend a DRO orientation at our West LA Operations Headquarters. You can register for an upcoming DRO orientation via the links on the right hand side of the webpage. At the orientation, you will be interviewed to match your volunteer interests with our current volunteer opportunities.
Step 2. Print and complete the following (4) forms to get registered as a Red Cross volunteer. In order to view the forms, you will need Adobe Reader which you can download here: Adobe Reader Download
- Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) Registration Form
- DRO Pre-Assignment Health Questionnaire Form
- Intellectual Property Agreement Form
- Code of Conduct Form
Step 3: Complete an online background check at www.MyBackgroundCheck.com. All volunteers MUST complete a background check prior to being assigned a volunteer position. Please complete this step BEFORE you attend a DRO orientation. For step-by-step instructions to complete your background check, visit our website at www.RedCrossLA.org/DROBackgroundCheck
Step 4. After you have attended a DRO orientation, we will have a list of available volunteer positions that you can sign up for. If you are available, you will be given a volunteer assignment and you can report to your shift manager. Also, download the DRO expectation sheet to help prepare you to volunteer with the American Red Cross. DRO Expectations Sheet
