Reporting Hours, Drive Time & Training

Rules for Reporting Volunteer Hours

1.  ON CALL HOURS

a.  Attending a workshop (online or in person) may be included as “regular’ volunteer hours.  However, the commute to/from (for an in-person class) is not.

b. Disaster Action Team (DAT) Volunteers may count drive time for ‘on call’ hours.  See example below:

You’re on call from 12am to 8am.  You get a call at 3am to work a shift.   You get in your car to go to the call at 3:30.  You arrive at the site at 4 and leave at 7:30.  You drive back home at 7:30 and arrive 8.  Your hours reported should be reported as follows:

  • On Call Hours = 4.5 hours
    • On Call = 3.5 hours (12am to 3:30am)
    • Drive Time = .5 hours (3:30am – 4am)
    • Drive Time = .5 hours (7:30am – 8am)
  • Reported Hours = 3.5
    • Working Hours = 3.5 hours (4am – 7:30am)

2.  EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEER HOURS

Red Cross employees may submit hours for time volunteered at Red Cross events.   If time served is compensated, you may NOT claim these as volunteer hours.
