The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council sponsored the Playground Celebration and Disaster Preparedness Fair in honor of the new playground shade coverings at Holleigh Bernson Park on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 11am to 2pm. The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles team was also present. The Disaster Response Field Kitchen team, used this event as an disaster response exercise serving 300 hot dogs. The Disaster Response Canteen team gave out drinks and snacks as part of the response exercise. Also provided was literature on our programs and services, information on how to be prepared, as well as volunteer opportunities. Literature was provided from the Office of Volunteer Programs and Community Disaster Education. Cary Van Ausdall, Disaster Response Public Information Officer also spoke about the American Red Cross programs and services. Others present included Carol Parks of the LA Office of Emergency Preparedness, Cub Scouts, Girl and Boy Scouts, Boy Scout Venturing, Fire Explorers and the YMCA.
