2010 Summer Internship Program
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross Greater Los Angeles Summer Internship Program is to have diverse populations and active local community members gain experience in the professional non-profit industry, as well as a provide a space to most efficiently/effectively serve our communities.
Benefits
Although these are not paid internship positions, Interns will gain experience working directly with Paid Staff and Volunteers for one of the most recognizable non-profits in the world. How the program works
Listed below are the internship opportunities available for the Summer of 2010. Applicants are allowed to apply for a maximum of 3 positions. All interns are required to commit 10-15 hours a week, and start/end date is negotiable. 2010 Internship Positions
Emergency and Disaster Response Department
- Research/Documentation Specialist, Emergency/Disaster Response Specialist
The Research and Documentation Specialist will support the Emergency and Disaster Response department through the identification, review and reporting of historical information and recently released news article and scholarly research on topics relevant to the mission of American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles.
- DAT Staffing Support
This volunteer intern position is responsible for assisting in the management of Disaster Action Teams, Staffing processes and programs as needed to support the volunteer DAT Staffing schedulers. Work with the Manager of Emergency and Disaster Response (EDR) personnel, the Training Coordinator, and the DSHR Coordinator to act as the primary staffing resource for Regional DAT, in collaboration with DAT Staffing team.
- DSHR Support/DSHR Coordinator and Manager of Response Personnel
This is an internship support position for the maintenance of the chapter’s Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) system and SalesForce. Responsible for working closely with the Chapter’s DSHR Coordinator, Personnel Manager and OVP in creating an effective transition for all Disaster Volunteers from the process of initial application and entry into the DSHR / SalesForce system. Responsible for entering, coordinating and data managment within the DSHR system.
- Health Services Analyst
Assist the Health Services Supervisor with planning and implementing project/systems for tracking disaster Volunteer health information, including submissions of annual health status reports and the designation of hardship codes and restrictions. Work within the Salesforce platform to create automated reports to manage volunteer information that can be easily maintained and routinely utilized for identifying and tracking pertinent information and communicating with volunteers. (Expected to start in August)
- Training Program Support
This is a volunteer intern position to provide administration and assistance for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter Disaster Services training program. This position requires a working knowledge of the volunteer training requirements and firm understanding of all disaster training courses. This position works closely with all volunteer instructors, potential instructors, and the Training Coordinator.
- Volunteer Liaison/ Surveyor
This is a volunteer intern position to communicate with DSHR and Partner personnel to monitor volunteer satisfaction, retention, and best practices. Communication will be conducted via email, telephone, online surveys, and in person regarding various projects, processes, and/or customer service. Provide feedback to Manager of Emergency & Disaster Response Personnel and department.
- Volunteer Incentive Researcher
This is a volunteer intern position to research best practices for volunteer incentives to promote disaster volunteer satisfaction and retention. Research will include external research of any national incentive prgrams, as well as internal research of Red cross best practices. A proposal for incentive programs will be provided to Manager of Emergency & Disaster Response Personnel, and implemented if approved.
Office of Volunteer Programs
- Disaster Puppet Show Specialist
As a the Puppet Show Specialist, you would serve as a supervisor to the youth volunteers, organizing puppet show trainings and attending shows.
- Preparedness Education Community Ambassador
We all know “The Big One” is coming, and we need to help our community be ready. The Preparedness Education Community Ambassador will be responsible for providing the community with simple training on how to be prepared for disaster. You will work with a fun loving and supportive team, sharpen valuable professional skills, and make a difference in the place you call home.
Marketing and Communication
- Preparedness Trainer
If you like to teach children and want to help protect them from harm during an emergency. The Red Cross is looking for you! As a Preparedness Trainer you teach school age children how to prepare themselves and their family during an emergency.
