What to expect:

Volunteers will coordinate with Volunteer Services various roles including, but not limited to: registration/check in, event greeters, and event runners.

The LA Marathon is an annual running event of 26.2 miles through the city of Los Angeles during the spring season.  The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region is looking for individuals who not only want to run, but support a LA Marathon official charity and/or support the Mile 20 Water Station at the West Los Angeles Red Cross location on the raceday!

What to expect:

To learn more about how to support the Red Cross LA Marathon official charity: Join the team. The Mile 20 Water Station is conveniently set in the parking lot of the West Los Angeles Red Cross location, runners will be thirsty and volunteers are need to fuel the rush rain or shine.

Holiday Mail for Heroes is designed to extend American Red Cross appreciation to the Armed forces during the holiday season.  Sending a “touch of home” to American men and women who serve our country is the perfect way to express your appreciation and support during the holiday season.

What to expect:

The process is very simple and takes no time at all.  Cards will be provided, all you need is a pen to share your appreciation for the sacrifices that members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedom.

Holiday Mail for Heroes is a program designed to extend our appreciation to the Armed forces during the holiday season.  The completed cards are collected and sent to a designated location (Learn more).  Cards are then shipped to participating Red Cross chapters for sorting and delivery to military members, retirees and veterans in the chapter coverage area.

What to expect:

Volunteers will meet in the conference room for welcome snacks and drinks.  A Red Cross representative will provide a brief training, orientation and office tour.  Volunteers will be asked to organize, enclose, fold, seal, handwrite, stamp and handle the mailing documents.

Group Volunteering  is a great way to engage with your group while giving back to your community.  Red Cross is making it easier to serve the mission of Red Cross with various projects that are tailored to groups looking to make a short-term commitment without lengthy applications and background checks.

What groups are able to volunteer?

All groups are able to volunteer with Red Cross.  Corporate, Academic, Secular, Seniors, Bridal Parties, Mother-Daughter, Girl/Boy Scouts, Book Clubs or even a group of friends.

Can I get deployed to national or international disaster relief efforts through GVO?

No.  Only local opportunities available within the LA County.  GVOs do not provide any form of disaster relief.

Do I have to be part of a group to volunteer?

No, you do not have to be a part of a group to volunteer.  Click here to read more about individual opportunities.

Do you have minimum age restrictions for group volunteering?

Yes.  Please see individual project descriptions for minimum age requirements.

How much time must our group commit?

Each project varies.  You can serve anywhere from 2 to 8 hours in a given day.

Can we just drop in?

No, unfortunately we do not have the infrastructure to handle drop ins for Group Volunteer Opportunities.  Please look at our many GVO and register your group for a particular day and time.

Where do we need to go?

Group Volunteer projects take place throughout the Los Angeles Region,  so chose a category to find a location that works for your group. Please see individual project descriptions for
availabilities.

What do we do when we get there?

Please make yourself known as a member of the volunteer group and our front desk staff will direct you to the respective supervisor overseeing the GVO.

Do we need to sign in?

Yes, for liability purposes, we will need the entire group to sign in prior to service and report their hours after service. See supervisor upon arrival to site location.

Will ARC provide proof of volunteer service for group volunteers?

Yes, ARC will provide every volunteer with a dated certificate and number of hours volunteered.  By request, the Red Cross supervisor will also sign any school/church/community service credit forms after the project.

How do I go about registering my group?

Once you find a GVO that interests your group, just click “sign up”  on the bottom of the project description, and fill out the registration form. It’s that easy!  Red Cross representative will contact you to confirm the details of your selection.

Do we need to make a donation?

No, your group does not need to make a donation to volunteer.

What if we need to change or cancel after registering for a Group Volunteer project?

We understand that emergencies arise and plans need to change.  Please contact us at least 72 hours prior to your project date with changes or cancellations.

What if our group has an idea for a project?

We welcome new and exciting ways to serve the Red Cross.  Please contact us with your ideas!

Please complete the Event Form below for every Red Cross event or meeting your Red Cross youth group participates in. It is important to complete the form in a timely manner to ensure all reporting is accurate. Each Red Cross Youth Corps will receive a monthly report that documents all Red Cross youth events for that district/chapter.
