Scrubby Bear

Scrubby BearHey kids!  Do you know how germs are spread?

Close your eyes and think of something very, very tiny.  What kinds of tiny things can you think of?

The very tiniest thing is something called a germ.  They are so small you can’t even see germs with your eyes.  The very smallest kind of germ is called a virus.  Have you ever had a cold?  That was a virus.  And even though you couldn’t see the virus, I bet you could tell you had it!

Do you know where you can find germs?  Germs hide in all sorts of places.  Because they are so hard to see, you don’t even know they’re there!  Germs can be on the floor, on your toys, and they can even get on your hands!    Our hands get a lot of germs on them because we touch so many things.  That’s why it’s so important to keep our hands clean.  Washing our hands properly, with soap and water, helps kill the germs that make us sick.

Do you know how to wash your hands? Here is what Scrubby Bear says:

1.  Wet your hands with water.
2.  Use a squirt of soap and scrub for at least 10 seconds.  Make sure you wash front and back, between your fingers and even around your fingernails.  Scrub for as long as it takes you to sing “Happy Birthday to Scrubby Bear.”
3.  Rinse and dry your hands.

Scrubby Bear even has a hand washing song to help you remember! Sing these words to the tune of, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”:

Wet, wet, wet your hands,
Use a squirt of soap,
Scrub, scrub, scrub, scrub,
Rinse and dry them both.

Now you know how to wash your hands!  This will help keep you healthy.
