Preparedness for Seniors

The thought of disasters can be scary, but don’t worry.  Most of that fear comes from not knowing how to properly prepare.  The Red Cross can help you get prepared.

The most important thing you can do is prepare yourself and those around you.  Follow these three steps to Be Red Cross Ready:

  1. Get a Kit (you can find a checklist here)
  2. Make a Plan
  3. Be Informed

Create a plan with those around you.  We recommend you create a personal support system for yourself in the event of a disaster.  Talk to your family, neighbors, friends, anyone you come into contact with on a regular basis.  These people should be prepared to check in on you in an emergency, and give assistance if needed.  Make sure these people know where you keep your emergency supplies, and set up a contact system incase the phone lines are down.
