From Left, American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles Board Members Kirk Hyde, Jill Valenti, CEO Paul Schulz and Board member Buzz McCoy celebrate the installation of a new emergency generator at the West Los Angeles Headquarters.
On Wednesday, April 21, the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles celebrated the installation of a new emergency generator, which was purchased as a result of $125,000 in individual donations and a $50,000 challenge grant from an anonymous donor. The generator assures an uninterrupted power supply to the chapter’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the event that a disaster knocks out local power.
The installation of the generator is one of the many components of the chapter’s catastrophic disaster plan. During the past several years, the Greater Los Angeles chapter has placed 85 relief containers –filled with disaster supplies – throughout the L.A. region, secured vendors to provide meals for displaced residents and activated a state-of-the-art EOC.
Board members, volunteers, staff and donors including representatives from Edison International and Towers Watson attended the festivities at the West Los Angeles headquarters.
