Local Red Cross Workers Continue to Aid North Dakota Flood Victims

April 3, 2009 – Three Los Angeles disaster team members are among the more than 800 Red Cross workers from across the country who continue to help North Dakota residents during the Red River flood crisis.

Sue Hammarlund and Dick Thorpe remain in North Dakota helping with shelter operations, while Tim Dunar continues to provide Information Management support.

Red River water levels have fallen since reaching a record-setting high over the last weekend of March. While optimistic, residents and disaster workers are dealing with a powerful snowstorm and preparing for the possibility that the river could rise again once the snow melts.

The Red Cross is operating nine shelters for displaced residents and has served over 50,000 meals and 165,000 snacks to residents and emergency workers. Additionally, over 2,000 people have received health services and mental health consultations.

You can help people affected by disasters like the current floods and winter storms by donating to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
