California Tsunami Evacuees Assisted at Red Cross Evacuation Centers

March 11, 2011, 5 p.m. — Nearly 1,900 people, primarily individuals living or working on boats, sought refuge today in 22 Red Cross evacuation centers along the California coast that were opened as a result of the tsunami that occurred after the 8.9 earthquake in Japan.

New Zealand Earthquake: Local Red Cross Can Assist in Finding Loved Ones

The New Zealand Red Cross is providing shelter, first aid and family linking assistance in response to the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit the Christchurch area on Feb. 22. American Red Cross Response to Indonesia Disasters

Following the eruption of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, central Java and the (unrelated) earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the Mentawai Islands, the American Red Cross has committed an initial $50,000 to support the Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia or PMI) in providing relief.
