For many, summer means fun in the sun. The kids are out of school, adults are on vacation and it’s time for outdoor activities like swimming, bike riding and hosting barbecues. However, the American Red Cross warns that summer is also the time of year that people are more likely to experience an injury or near-drowning.
It’s important for families to learn the necessary lifesaving skills to respond to injuries that may occur during outdoor activities. That’s why the Red Cross and ABC7 have teamed up for the 15th Annual ABCs of a Safe Summer.
From May 26 through Aug. 30, the Red Cross will offer Free Citizen CPR training, free disaster preparedness courses and low-cost first aid at events throughout Southern California. For event information click here. ABC7 will be airing public service announcements and news stories with summer safety tips.
In order to make life-saving information more accessible, ABCs of a Safe Summer partners have developed educational tip-sheets on CPR, First Aid, Water, Fire, Electrical and Heat safety. These flyers will be available at various Red Cross events and by downloading them below.
ABCs of a Safe Summer partners include the City of Los Angeles, City and County Fire Departments, Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Aetna, Kidde, Home Depot, L.A. Care Health Plan and Northgate Market.
