May 8 is World Red Cross Red Crescent Day. Learn how to join the L.A. Region International Services volunteer team and play an important role in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

In preparation for wildfire season, the Red Cross L.A. Region took part in a multi-agency disaster readiness drill for the Topanga Canyon community on Sat. April 28.

On April 24, 70 Red Cross supporters gathered at the home of former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan for a reception and conversation with Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the national American Red Cross.

Hundreds of Southland Red Cross supporters, including celebrities and members of the business community, were on hand at this year’s Red Tie Affair fundraiser April 21 honoring actors Jamie Lee Curtis, Denis Leary and J.R. Martinez.

During the April 13 weekend, the Red Cross opened a shelter at Santa Monica High School for residents evacuated from an apartment building due to fire. Some 26 Santa Monica residents were provided with shelter, meals, and access to nursing and mental health assistance.

The Red Cross advocates that pet owners take several simple steps to protect your four-legged family members before disaster strikes: Learn about BARKCODE, a pet identification system; how to plan for evacuations with your pet in mind; and how to take a pet first aid class.
