Disaster Services Training

Disaster Training provides Red Cross disaster volunteers with Disaster Services program guidance information, including roles, responsibilities and methods of service delivery for chapter responses and larger disaster relief operations. All disaster training is free of charge and is open to Red Cross volunteers.

The first step for all new volunteers is to take Disaster Services: An Overview. There are numerous disaster activities in which one can become involved; these can be explored further after completing the steps to Becoming an Emergency Services Volunteer. Individuals are not limited to one activity within Emergency Services; multiple avenues can be explored at the same time. We look forward to having you as part of our team.

Blended Learning courses are a course that contains an online component and a classroom component; the online portion needs to be completed before attending the classroom portion, both components need to be completed for individuals to receive credit for the course.

Classroom
Classroom courses are offered at various locations; individuals attend the course in person and are led by qualified disaster instructor. Registration is required for all courses.

Online
Online courses are generally offered through Saba LMS, this requires individuals to log on to Saba to register and complete the course. Upon completion individuals should notify their chapter training contact to ensure their records are updated. Some online courses are offered through partner organizations, in which case, individuals should contact their chapter training contact for information to complete the course.

Self Study
Self-study courses involve individuals reviewing course materials on their own and generally completing a course review, this would need to be submitted to your chapter training contact to receive credit for the course. Please contact your chapter training contact to obtain the materials to complete a particular course.

Virtual Classroom (WebEx)
Virtual Classroom courses or a WebEx is an online course that is held at a set time; individuals will log into a portal and call in at the same time. The instructor will take you through the course over the phone.

Eventually these classes will be found in Saba; at this time to view the calendar for upcoming WebEx courses, visit the Disaster Services Neighborhoods at: https://neighborhoods.redcross.org/response/default.aspx; select the Group Neighborhood in which the activity falls under and then select the Training Calendar on the left side menu. You will need a CrossNet User ID and password to access the sites. Be sure to provide your chapter training contact with a copy of the certificate upon completion.
