Volunteers and Employees Recognized for Going Above and Beyond

Eleven outstanding volunteers and employees were lauded for their extraordinary contributions to the Greater Los Angeles Red Cross at the 2009 Chapter Excellence Awards held Sun., Dec. 6.
More than 150 volunteers, employees and guests attended this year’s luncheon which took place at the Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles.

Awards were given to outstanding volunteers in the categories of health and safety, youth leadership, leadership, disaster services and overall chapter service. Employees were rewarded for their excellence in the areas of support services, management, partnership, mission, and professional/technical expertise.
Volunteers were selected based on extraordinary commitment, effort, collaboration and/or leadership qualities. Employees were eligible for nomination by peers and selected based on their high level of integrity, stewardship, proactivity and/or training.
This year, the chapter introduced the Jessie Thompson Award in memory of its namesake Jessie Thompson, a 30-year employee who passed away in May. The award recognizes exemplary working partnerships with volunteers to fulfill the mission of the American Red Cross.
