The Weingart Foundation Awards $1 Million Grant for Disaster Preparedness
The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles was awarded a $1 million grant — one of the largest grants ever received by the chapter — from The Weingart Foundation in support of the chapter’s catastrophic disaster planning and preparedness efforts. The goal of the ambitious preparedness project is to feed and shelter 250,000 people following a major disaster.
The Greater Los Angeles Red Cross received the matching grant by raising $2 million from individuals, businesses and corporations over the past two years to support this project.
Paul Schulz, CEO, American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, said, “The Catastrophic Disaster Plan is unprecedented but achievable, in large part, because of this generous gift. We are very grateful for The Weingart Foundation’s incredible support, which will better enable us to assist our community members after a major disaster.”
For more than 25 years, The Weingart Foundation has contributed over $11 million for various regional and national disaster relief efforts, including $2.5 million for relief activities following the Northridge Earthquake in 1995, as well as supporting the Greater Los Angeles chapter.
