CEO Message | January 2010 Edition

MESSAGE FROM PAUL SCHULZ
Chief Executive Officer
American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles

When international disasters strike --- such as the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile --- local Red Cross workers are usually among the first on the scene. That’s because Red Cross and Red Crescent societies exist in more than 180 countries around the world, and local workers are trained to assist disaster victims. When the call for international aid is requested, the American Red Cross is always quick to respond. Thanks to the generosity of the American public, including our Southern California donors, the American Red Cross has delivered life-sustaining supplies to more than a million people in Haiti. In addition, $500,000 has been pledged to help the earthquake victims of Chile. Meanwhile, our chapter volunteers and employees, along with enthusiastic AmeriCorps-Calif. Safe Corps members, continue to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters in our own community. If you need assistance getting prepared, please visit our Prepare+ website for helpful disaster preparedness information and tools.

Once upon a time in our chapter
Red Cross youth volunteers are the future of the organization, and they are eager to carry on activities that serve the community. Over the years, their projects have ranged from the traditional to the unique, not only helping others, but giving the youth an insight into life that they might not have gained in any other way.
