On Jan. 27, Ridgecrest resident Sharon Hicks received a Red Cross Lifesaving Award for administering CPR for 10 minutes to save the life of Anthony (Joe) Rice. Medical personnel credit Joe’s survival to Sharon’s immediate and persistent actions.

Volunteers and staff delivered cards to local veterans Wednesday as part of the American Red Cross’s Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Holiday cards were personally delivered to veterans at the William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home in Lancaster, and more will be distributed to veterans facilities throughout Los Angeles County.

Three training classes have been scheduled for January at the AV Chapter Office. The classes are the Disaster Services Overview, Psychological First Aid and Disaster Assessment Basics. Please see the Events and Trainings page for dates and times. All courses required pre-registration.

Three members of the AV Chapter’s Disaster Action Team responded to a house fire caused by high winds near Glendale, Thursday, December 1st. The team was able to help a family of three meet their immediate needs and set them on their road to recovery.

Two Antelope Valley Chapter volunteers have deployed to the East Coast to help victims of Hurricane Irene. Ken Dieball and Carla Kabaniec have volunteered weeks of their time to help those affected by the recent hurricane.
