On Jan. 27, Ridgecrest resident Sharon Hicks received a Red Cross Lifesaving Award for administering CPR for 10 minutes to save the life of Anthony (Joe) Rice. Medical personnel credit Joe’s survival to Sharon’s immediate and persistent actions.

Disaster Action Team volunteers put their holiday plans on hold Christmas day to help two local families affected by disasters, getting them out of the cold and on their path to recovery. Volunteers and staff delivered cards to local veterans Wednesday as part of the American Red Cross’s Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Holiday cards were personally delivered to veterans at the William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home in Lancaster, and more will be distributed to veterans facilities throughout Los Angeles County.

Three members of the AV Chapter’s Disaster Action Team responded to a house fire caused by high winds near Glendale, Thursday, December 1st. The team was able to help a family of three meet their immediate needs and set them on their road to recovery.
